Protecting Our Jora Pukur: A Responsibility for Everyone

Urban ponds are an important part of our environment. They help maintain biodiversity and provide water for local people, birds, and animals. One such pond is Jora Pukur, located in Sarkar Bazaar, Kolkata. This pond is commonly used by local residents for bathing and washing. It is also home to many fishes, ducks, and local birds, making it an important natural habitat in the area.

Unfortunately, the condition of the pond is becoming worse day by day. A large amount of waste and garbage is being thrown into the water, causing severe pollution. Due to dirty water and harmful waste materials, many fishes and other aquatic animals are dying. If this problem continues, the pond may completely lose its natural beauty and ecological importance in the future.

To save urban ponds like Jora Pukur, people must become more responsible. Throwing waste into ponds should be strictly stopped, and regular cleaning drives should be organized at least once every month. Local communities should also work together to protect fishes, ducks, and birds living near the pond. Awareness campaigns in schools and neighbourhoods can encourage people to keep water bodies clean and healthy.

As students, we can also take small initiatives to create awareness among people. By spreading messages about cleanliness and environmental protection, we can inspire others to care for urban wetlands. Saving ponds today means protecting nature and ensuring a healthier environment for future generations.
