located near Carry Road in Howrah, is an important local pond that supports both people and urban biodiversity. Like many traditional ponds in Bengal, it plays a valuable role in maintaining ecological balance and providing water for local birds and animals. The pond is surrounded by local neighborhoods and serves as a small but important natural habitat. Birds, insects, and stray animals depend on this water body for survival. Such ponds also help maintain groundwater levels and improve the local environment by supporting greenery and reducing heat in crowded urban areas.

However, the pond is currently facing serious environmental problems, especially pollution. Waste dumping and improper disposal of garbage into the pond are affecting water quality and harming aquatic life. Plastic waste and polluted water create unhealthy conditions for fish, birds, and other living organisms. If pollution continues, the pond may gradually lose its ecological importance.

To protect and restore the waterbody both local authorities and community members must work together. Regular cleaning of the pond and proper waste management are necessary to reduce pollution. People should avoid throwing plastic and garbage into the water. Planting trees and maintaining green areas around the pond can also improve biodiversity and create safer habitats for birds and animals. Awareness campaigns and community participation can make a big difference. Students and local residents can organize clean-up drives and encourage responsible behavior. Protecting local water bodies like ‘Benerjee Pukur’ is important for building a cleaner, greener, and healthier future for our cities.
