Urban wetlands are very important for both people and nature. One such beautiful water body is Rabindra Sarobar in Kolkata. It is a peaceful lake surrounded by many old trees, which provide shelter to different kinds of birds and small animals. Many local people visit this place for walking, relaxation, and spending time with nature. The lake is also culturally important because many temples are located nearby, and earlier Chhath Puja was celebrated there.

However, this beautiful lake is slowly getting polluted. Many people throw garbage into the water, and sometimes clothes are washed directly in the lake. Harmful chemicals from soaps and detergents make the water dirty and unsafe for aquatic life. Air pollution and lack of regular cleaning are also affecting the health of the lake. If this continues, many birds and animals may lose their habitat in the future.

We, as students and responsible citizens, should take initiative to protect urban wetlands. Regular cleaning drives should be organized, and strict rules must stop people from throwing waste into lakes. Awareness campaigns in schools and local communities can also encourage people to keep wetlands clean. Planting more trees around lakes and reducing pollution can help restore the natural beauty of these places.

Even small actions by students can create a big difference. By protecting urban wetlands today, we can save nature for future generations.
